Tree Donation & Planting completed in West Palm Beach Historic and Iconic Memorial Park.
The planting is part of the city’s goal of being a resilient and ecologically sustainable community.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (May 25, 2023) – At Woodlawn Cemetery, a location where beauty meets history, St. George’s Society of Palm Beach donated five new flowering trees for the cemetery’s median island. St. George’s Society of Palm Beach, a charitable English heritage organization, holds a worldwide reputation for donating flowering trees to parcels and gardens.  The City of West Palm Beach Office of Sustainability administers the city’s mission to be a model of a healthy, equitable, environmentally progressive, resilient, and ecologically sustainable community.

The project involved the planting of new Jacaranda and Pink Trumpet trees.  Jacaranda and Pink Trumpets are Florida-friendly, fast-growing, drought-tolerant trees known for spectacular blooms.

“These five new flowering trees will enhance the beauty of the cemetery and its surroundings significantly.”, said Penni Redford, City of West Palm Beach Resilience and Climate Change Manager.

Woodlawn Cemetery, created by Henry Flagler on 17 acres of a former pineapple field in 1904, is located behind an iconic concrete arch at 1301 South Dixie Highway. The Woodlawn Cemetery Association deeded the property to the City of West Palm Beach in 1914.  Some of South Florida’s first and founding families are interned at the historic burial ground.
