WEST PALM BEACH, FL (DATE) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, May 15, 2023.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Mayor Keith A. James presented a tribute to Palm Beach State College administration on the 90th anniversary of the first junior college in Florida.

Members of the Palm Beach State College Administration and Staff were presented a tribute by Mayor Keith A. James.

 

Mayor James also presented two proclamations to the City of West Palm Beach Public Works Department celebrating National Public Works Week as May 21-27, 2023, and Automotive Services Professionals Month in June 2023.

CITY ATTORNEY – Approved a resolution authorizing assessment of City liens for unpaid water service, sewer service and stormwater charges for the month of January 2023; approved a resolution for a conditional settlement agreement for $95,000 in the case of Earnest Jones v. City of West Palm Beach for an accident that occurred on May 21, 2021.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved a resolution related to Tortoise One mixed residential project at 740 and 840 N. Dixie Highway, accepting maintenance responsibilities for improvements to be constructed along the east side of Dixie Highway between 7th Street and 8th Street, approving a maintenance memorandum of agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation and a right-of-way maintenance agreement with the developer, KJWPB1, LLC; approved a resolution granting Face of the City approval for streetscape improvements and landscape enhancements along Chase Street, between Okeechobee Boulevard and South Flagler Drive, and on Trinity Place between Chase Street and South Flagler Drive within the Downtown Master Plan area; continued a resolution approving a new site plan for the Rosarian Academy; approved an ordinance after first public hearing amending the Rosarian Academy Community Service Planned Development (CSPD) to expand the boundary of the CSPD to encompass the entire school campus; approved an ordinance after first public hearing to rezone parcels located north of 7th Street, south of 8th Street, west of North Flagler Drive and east of North Olive Avenue from Downtown Master Plan (DMP) district to Liftin District – 5 (LD-5) and Loftin District Residential (LD-R) into the Rosarian Academy Community Service Planned Development (CSPD).

ENGINEERING – Approved two resolutions accepting and allocating a State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Resilient Florida Grant for $3.625 million for use for the City of West Palm Beach Pilot Sea Wall Elevation Project and allocating funds to the General Fund; approved a resolution granting an easement to Florida Power & Light (FPL) at 1116 21st Street as part of the Coleman Park Gymnasium Project.

FINANCE – Approved a resolution amending the General Housing Trust, Capital Acquisition and Fleet Management Fund budgets recognizing the transfer of development rights sale, proceeds and providing appropriations for various City needs.

FIRE DEPARTMENT – Approved a resolution for a fifth amendment to the inter-local agreement with Palm Beach County for fire vehicle maintenance.

PARKS and RECREATION – Approved a resolution to provide child care services at Gaines Park Community Center and South Olive Park Community Center as part of the State of Florida Statewide School Readiness Provider contract and a Children’s Services Provider contract agreements.

PUBLIC WORKS – Approved a resolution authorizing an interlocal agreement with the Downtown Development Authority funding the project to repair certain damaged sidewalks in the downtown area.
