West Palm Beach City Commission Meeting and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Meeting Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (DATE) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, January 9, 2023.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Presented a proclamation to the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council on its 35th Anniversary, and Key to the City to Rand Hoch, president and founder of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council.

Mayor Keith A. James presented a Tribute to Palm Beach County Human Rights Council founder and president, Rand Hoch, and board members.
Mayor James also presented Mr. Hoch with the Key to the City of West Palm Beach.

Approved a resolution appropriating $500,000 to provide for the Small and Minority/Women Business Grant Program;

CITY ATTORNEY – Approved a resolution for a conditional settlement agreement with Nicolas Quintero and Lucia Aviles to settle a claim for an accident that occurred on May 12, 2021; approved an ordinance, on second reading, amending the City Code to establish a City Wrecker Operator System;  

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved three resolutions providing ad valorem tax exemptions for the historic rehabilitation of the properties located at 218 Edgewood Drive, 221 Wildermere Road and 223 Belmonte Road; approved an ordinance on second reading to amend the parking and loading requirements within the Downtown Master Plan and Northwest Neighborhood District; approved an ordinance after a second reading to extend the zoning in progress provision allowing parklets as established under the temporary outdoor dining program and to adopt a temporary fee for parking meter use associated with the parklets; approved on first reading an ordinance to amend the Downtown Master Plan incentive programs special provisions for historic structure relocation and designation; approved an ordinance on first reading, and resolution, to amend the Downtown Master Plan incentive program housing incentive program implementation guide; approved a new fee schedule for sidewalk café permits; held a public hearing and continued to a later meeting an ordinance after second reading designating the Florida Public Utilities Company (FPUC) building on the West Palm Beach Register of Historic Places; approved an ordinance on first reading to abandon the terminus portion of Eucalyptus Street and alleyway between 7th Street and Eucalyptus Street for the Rosarian Academy; approved a resolution after public hearing to allow construction and placement of a dock and boatlift at 234 Arlington Road; approved a plat entitled “Heyniger Replat of lots 3, 4, 5, and 6, Block Q, Prospect Park South.”  

ENGINEERING – Approved a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a maintenance map for Parker Avenue from Forest Hill Boulevard to Nottingham Boulevard.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY – Approved a resolution to appropriate $400,000 for replacement of the Police Headquarters Access Control System; approved an ordinance on first reading to amend the rules of procedure regarding the use of city technology to prohibit the public from connecting detachable media to the City’s equipment.

PUBLIC UTILITIES – Approved two resolutions accepting a grant for $4,000 form St. George’s Society of Palm Beach, A Walk in the Forest Funding Effort for tree planting at Woodlawn Cemetery and appropriating the funds for the project.

Community Redevelopment Agency Meeting Approvals and Decisions

Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) on Monday, January 9, 2023.

The CRA approved a resolution adopting amendments to the Northwest Parking Lot Beautification Incentive Program for the Downtown/City CRA; approved a resolution creating a Tax Incentive Financing (TIF) program to support construction housing for families with income between 60% and 100% of the area median income; approved a resolution amending the Relocation and Development Assistance Program for the Downtown/City Center District to provide tenant relocation assistance for properties between 7th Street and 11th Street, located adjacent to Railroad Avenue in the NoRA zone.
