State Senator Ileana Garcia Secured Astonishing ,569,619 Sum for City of Miami Initiative’s: East Auburndale Flooding Mitigation, Fairlawn Community Storm Water Drainage, & Kinloch Roadway Neighborhood Improvements

Miami, FL —

July 16th 2022 State Senator Ileana Garcia celebrated $4,569,619 in legislative grants she fought to secure this past session toward the City of Miami with: East Auburndale Drainage & Flooding Mitigation, Fairlawn Community Storm Water Drainage, & Kinloch Roadway Neighborhood Improvements.

A grand total of $1,500,000 was allotted to East Auburndale for Drainage & Flooding Mitigation which will go toward addressing the substantial amount of flooding and sea-level rising experienced by the community during hurricanes and king-tides. These funds are directly addressing the concerns not only expressed by City Commissioner Manolo Reyes, but those consistently voiced during several local hearings by residents. New and up-sized stormwater inlets, pipes, and ex-filtration trenches are expected to quell fears related to the effects of sea-level rise and the aforementioned severe inundation experienced during intense rain events. Properties and residents alike are expected to feel the positive effects of this project as it is expected to decrease flooding, prevent pollution run-off, and improve water quality.

Fairlawn Community Storm Water Drainage received $800,000 toward Flagami flooding repairs around SW 7th Street from 63rd Court to SW 63rd Avenue. Renovations are foreseen to enhance quality of life for the residential estates within the vicinity that totals about $165.5 million dollars’ worth of potential property impact. Construction will adopt newly implemented culverts, curbs, and pedestrian crossings that is expected to diminish figures for both pedestrian and vehicular accidents, as well as traffic caused by tides. Consequently, the condition of surface water is expected to improve due to minimization of environmental exposure to oils, grease, and other trash pollutants from the street to waterways.

Lastly, Kinloch saw $2,269,619 for Roadway Neighborhood Improvements. This will augment roadway quality within the vicinity by reconstructing various segments including sidewalks and sewer drainage upgrades. The scope of development includes, but is not limited to, NW 3rd Street from NW 47th to 48th Avenue. City of Miami residents and visitors alike can expect to experience smoother roadways, slope corrections, increased mobility, ADA enhancements, and ultimately, an overall safer community.
