New full-time bus operators can earn a $5,000 bonus

Join Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) as a full-time bus operator and earn $5,000 bonus. Bus operator trainees will earn $20.15 per hour and after successfully completing the training program, will earn $21.21 per hour to start, plus built-in overtime.

*Sign-on bonus: $2,500 paid after acceptance, enrollment and completion of the DTPW Bus Operator Training Program and six months of successful performance; remaining $2,500 paid after 18 additional months of successful performance as a DTPW Bus Operator.

How to get hired
Joining the DTPW team as a bus operator is simple. Follow the steps below to begin your journey and be a part of the team that moves Miami-Dade.
Step 1: Apply during application period; check back here for dates
Once the application period opens, visit miamidade.gov/jobs and search for the open “bus operator” position to apply.
Step 2: Get screened
If your application meets the qualifications, human resources will contact you to discuss next steps. The following are the minimum requirements to become a bus operator for DTPW:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must possess proof of having passed the General Knowledge for a class “B” vehicle with air brakes and Passenger Endorsement Testing of the CDL (all documents need to be current and valid)
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts and locations as assigned.

New hires will participate in a nine-week training program before getting on the road with passengers.
