JTHS-MIAMI Realtors Raise Money, Awareness to End Local Childhood Drowning

MIAMI — The Jupiter-Tequesta-Hobe Sound division of the MIAMI Association of Realtors (JTHS-MIAMI) raised money and awareness to end local childhood drowning recently during its annual Battle of the Bartenders event at the Salute Market in Palm Beach Gardens.

JTHS-MIAMI and the JTHS-MIAMI Young Professionals Network raised $20,000 for the Palm Beach Gardens-based non-profit, the Live Like Jake Foundation. The money will be used by Live Like Jake to provide scholarships to local needy families for infant swimming resource (ISR) self-rescue swim lessons, childhood drowning awareness and financial and emotional support for families who have experienced a drowning accident.

“JTHS-MIAMI is honored to raise money for an incredible local, lifesaving organization like the Live Like Jake Foundation,” JTHS-MIAMI President Brad Westover said. “Realtors are robustly committed to their communities, and our mission at JTHS-MIAMI and MIAMI REALTORS® is to give back and help local non-profits who are making a difference in the community.”

Live Like Jake was created in the memory of Jake Roarke Morrison. In 2013, Jake died before his third birthday in a drowning accident. Ever since, his Palm Beach Gardens family has been working to raise awareness and money for childhood drowning prevention.

Live Like Jake has an indoor swim facility in Palm Beach Gardens with lessons available with an ISR instructor. Drownings are a leading cause of injury and death for young children ages 1 to 14, and three children die every day because of drowning. In Florida, more than 90 children died from drowning in 2021, according to the Department of Children and Families.
